Descriptive Writing Assignment
Choose one of the following topics:
You are lost in the woods alone. Describe your experience. How did you get there? Be sure to include smells, sounds, etc. Also include emotions. As the reader, I want to feel like I am there with you.
Same as above, but instead of the woods, you are in the jungle.
Describe an accident. Maybe one in which you were involved or that you may have witnessed. This, of course, can be from your imagination. Remember to use descriptive words and to tap into the five senses.
Imagine that you are at the Exhibition with your friends. Describe your experience. Sights? Touch? Taste? Smell? Hear?
You are walking home from a late movie, and you have to cut through a cemetery. Describe your experience.
6. Topic of your choice that has been pre-approved by me. *I want at least four well written paragraphs!
Tips for Descriptive Writing:
Be sure to use the writing process. Pre-write, Organize, Write, Edit, Revise, Share
Use Figurative Language when possible…similes and metaphors are great ways to describe.
Be sure to tap into the five senses of your reader, so that he/she feels like they are there with you. Remember to Show Not Tell** !
